EU Members in the Security Council condemned the Secessionist Policy that undermines Dayton

A meeting of European Union countries was held at the United Nations, where the French briefed other countries on the closed consultations of the Security Council on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in light of Milorad Dodik’s latest statements and secessionist rhetoric. The basis was a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina to members of the Security Council dated February 11, 2026.

The closed consultations were led by the British, who were focused on criticizing the secessionist agenda and Dodik’s recent statements, clearly confirming their support for Dayton, OHR and High Representative C. Schmidt. British diplomats have also stressed that they will challenge actions that contradict Dayton/BiH stability.

Russia issued a very long statement – essentially the expected response rejecting the UK narrative. She questioned the legitimacy of the letter from the BiH MFA that was distributed to the Security Council (claiming that the sender did not have a mandate to do so). She also accused other political actors/constituent nations of wanting to re-centralize BiH, characterizing such behavior as anti-Dayton. Russia repeated its attack on C. Schmidt, claiming that he is biased towards the Serbs.

After the briefing, the EU members in the Security Council gave consistent messages: condemnation of the secessionist rhetoric that undermines Dayton/stability and emphasis on the integration path of BiH into the EU as the central framework for the political process.

The United States and China were brief in their statements. The USA emphasized Dayton and opposed any rhetoric that threatens the stability of BiH; they did not mention OHR. China remained generic, calling for calm and dialogue.

Other members of the Security Council reiterated their support for the UN Charter and Dayton; the interventions were mostly very short. Bahrain and Pakistan also raised another issue – religious hatred.
