euFrom Delegation of the European Union in BiH said that the EU “took note” that the RS marks the Day of the RS although the Constitutional Court of BiH decided that the celebration of the Day of RS on the 9th of January is inconsistent with the Constitution of BiH.

They emphasized that the Council of the European Union in its conclusions from October 2016 expressed regret over the illegal referendum on the entity level on the day of the RS, contrary to the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH on the 17th of September 2016, emphasizing that the referendum caused tensions and undermined the rule of law.

“The EU gives great importance to the proper functioning of democratic institutions, including the implementation of decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH, and calls on all political leaders in BiH to refrain from the rhetoric of division and focus on the important political and economic reforms,” as noted from the EU Delegation.

To recall, in the RS was celebrated the unconstitutional Day of the RS which, among others, was attended by President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic and Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Mladen Ivanic.

Ivanic also lined the Third Regiment of the Armed Forces of BiH at Krajina Square in Banja Luka, which did not take part in the ceremonial activities. Ministry of Defence of BiH said that they have not given any approval for the participation of the Armed Forces of BiH in the celebrations of the RS.

Member of the Presidency of BiH, Bakir Izetbegovic, said that he will ask for investigation of all the facts concerning the engagement of the Armed Forces of BiH in the framework of the Day of the RS.
