EU Suspends Import of Chicken Meat from BiH – Poultry Producers Calculate Huge Losses

The Association of Poultry Farmers of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed that the export of chicken meat from Bosnia and Herzegovina to European Union countries has been temporarily suspended.

This suspension followed the detection of bird flu at a poultry farm in the Karanovac neighborhood of Petrovo Municipality.

The measure, which was implemented at the end of February, has already caused significant problems for local producers. As a result, large quantities of chicken remain on the domestic market.

To mitigate the impact, poultry farmers are seeking alternative solutions. Some of the meat is being sold on the domestic market, while certain amounts are being frozen to allow for export at a later date.

An important detail is that the border with Serbia remains open, allowing producers to continue part of their exports. It was also noted that the largest share of chicken exports goes to neighboring Croatia.

According to poultry farmers, this export restriction is expected to last about 30 days in the best-case scenario, with the measure likely ending at the beginning of April, considering it has been in effect since the end of February.
