The European Union underlines the importance of ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and public trust in the democratic process in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In this context, the High Representative Christian Schmidt has taken measures to ensure the timely procurement of equipment for the Central Election Commission before the General Elections in October 2026, it was announced today on the X platform of the EU Delegation to BiH.

The High Representative, as announced by the OHR, imposed today decisions that resolve the issue of payment of the debt arising from the arbitration dispute with the Slovenian company Viaduct and provide funds for the procurement of new equipment necessary for more effective control of the electoral process.

“High Representative Schmidt has taken measures to ensure the timely procurement of equipment for the Central Election Commission before the General Elections in October 2026. Given the several-month absence of the state budget for 2025, the use of the High Representative’s executive powers to address the urgency of the issue of the integrity of the electoral process is the only remaining measure,” the EU Delegation to BiH stated.
