EUFOR Commander presented an Award to a Bosnian

On 12 January 2023, the Commander of EUFOR, Major General Anton Wessely presented an award to Mr. Harnes Safić in recognition of his carrying out an exceptional act which saved the life of a young citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mr. Harnes Safić is an interpreter with EUFOR’s Multinational Battalion. The award ceremony took place in in EUFOR HQ, Camp Butmir, Sarajevo.

On 15th December 2022, Mr. Harnes Safić saved the life of a 12 year old boy. Harnes Safić realized that the boy was choking. He intervened immediately and rendered first aid, cleared the blockage and opened the boy’s airway. Without Mr. Safić´s prompt intervention, the emergency services would have not have arrived in time to save the boy´s life.

Mr. Safić embodies the EUFOR mission and EUFOR’s ethos, to support the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mr. Safić´s action reflects great honor on himself and the EUFOR ALTHEA mission.
