The EUFOR soldier was at the commemoration of January 9thin Milici, during which he participated by standing with the other attendees and holding a candle. EUFOR, on the other hand, says that he was only monitoring the event.

In the statement of the Municipality of Milici, it is stated that “January 9th – the Day of the Republika Srpska (RS) was marked with the memorial service for the fallen fighters in the Memorial Room and the laying of wreaths on the central memorial in Milici”.

It was from the room where the memorial service was held that a photo was published showing an EUFOR soldier holding a candle with his head bowed down.

The European Union (EU) Peace Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) told that the soldier “is on assignment and a mission and is part of EUFOR’s liaison and observation team with the local community.”

“We can say that the soldier who appeared in the photo is a member of the liaison team with the local community and authorities. One of the regular tasks of the members of that team is to observe local events in order to gain awareness of the needs and concerns of the people. A member of our team attended this ceremony to observe it,” it was said from EUFOR.

However, they do not explain why the soldier holds a candle together with the other participants in the celebration of the unconstitutional holiday and why he does not stand aside and observe if he is on a local observation mission, Klix.ba writes.
