After consecutively winning nine gold medals at European championships in sitting volleyball, the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina won the bronze medal for the first time in 20 years. BiH defeated Croatia for the third place of the European Championship in Porec with a result of 3:0 (25:21, 25:16, 25:18).
We won the first bronze medal in 1997 at the championship in Estonia and since then, our team has been winning only gold medals – nine gold medals at nine European championships.
Despite the fact that they did not win gold this time and reach the 10th consecutive European gold, the players of our national team deserve congratulations for maintaining the continuity in winning medals. In the semifinals, we were defeated by Russia, which will play against Ukraine in the final at 2:30 p.m. today.
The first set against Croatia was equal until right before the end when our volleyball players achieved an advantage of four points (24:20) and concluded the set with the result 25:21 for the lead in the match with a score of 1:0.
In the second set, our national team started playing better. We took the lead with 12:4, when it became expected that we would win the second set. In the end, the score was 25:16 for our team and we led the Croatians with 2:0.
The third set, similar to the previous, did not bring much more uncertainty, so our volleyball players generally had an advantage of at least three points difference and finally finished the set with a result of 25:18 and a final victory with a 3:0 result.
Mirzet Duran (12) and Safet Alibasic (10) were the highest scoring players in our team, while Ivan Cosis (8) and Sinisa Milicevic (7) scored the highest points for the Croatian team.
