European Film Days 2019 feature ten renowned European films, brought to BiH film lovers by the EU Info Centre in BiH, in cooperation with the EU National Institute for Culture (EUNIC) and the embassies of Spain, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Italy, Germany, France, Czeck Republic and Austria in Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of celebrations around Europe Day.

“This film festival, European Film Days, has become a traditional means to celebrate Europe Day through European culture and film. It is also a way to show the wealth of culture within and between EU member states, and to illustrate that culturally we are similar, that Bosnia and Herzegovina is part of Europe and that this is a community of cultures,” said Khaldoun Sinno Charge d’affairs of the EU Delegation to BiH, during the opening night of European Film Days.

“Cultural cooperation, and the exchange of the cultures of EU member states with Bosnia and Herzegovina, is as important as our engagement in the Rule of Law, the political sphere and the process of bringing Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to the European Union. These ten films reflect the diversity of the European Union. With each of them I hope you will find the motto of the European Union – united in diversity. I hope you will enjoy the best of what European cinematography has to offer,” added Sinno.

José María Valdemoro Giménez, Ambassador of Spain to BiH, also welcomed the audience to the screening of the Spanish film “The Romantic Exiles”, directed by Jonas Trueba, which opened European Film Days. “We want to highlight that music and film, and culture in general, bring people together and make connections,” remarkedAmbassador Giménez.

“By working together, we realise how different we all are, but we also understand and appreciate that which brings us together, and what better to show this than through films,” observed Martin Schumacher, Director of Goethe Institute to BiH, which currently presides over EUNIC BiH, while expressing his gratitude for the organisation of European Film Days 2019.

Cinema lovers of all ages have the opportunity to enjoy screenings of the best European films from 16 to 25 May at the Meeting Point Cinema, in the evening hours.  Entrance is free and all the films are subtitled in local and English language.
