Modern times have also brought the fact that an increasing number of young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) suffer from anxiety and depression. It is worrying that these psychological disorders affect even primary school children, and due to stigma and discrimination, few decide to seek professional help.

Recognizing this problem, they introduced a special model of psychological counseling in Tuzla.

After the recent terrible events in the region, the question of the psychological state of young people, which has been damaged to a certain extent by the arrival of modern trends in our area, has been reopened.

The first problems came with the coronavirus period

“According to past experiences, the biggest problems among young people have arisen since the period of the coronavirus pandemic, and they relate to anxiety and depressive disorders. During the corona period, children became lost, did not go to school, attended classes online and became alienated from society. Addiction to the Internet and mobile phones are also cited as major problems,” says neuropsychiatrist prim. Ph.D. Zlatko Kalabic, medical director of the Health Center in Tuzla.

According to practical experience, the interlocutor points out that the mentioned problems affect an increasingly younger age group.

“We receive patients from the age of eight or nine and up. So even elementary school students have issues, let alone high school students. We also receive students who, especially during the time of the coronavirus, had panic or anxiety disorders. We had very difficult cases,” says Kalabic.

There is no shame in asking for help

The problem of the 21st century was recognized in Tuzla, where the Psychological Counseling Center will be officially opened next Wednesday with the aim of providing support to young people in dealing with everyday challenges. The counseling center will be located in the center of the city, more precisely in the Ismet Mujezinovic International Atelier, and at the very beginning it will work for two hours on the specified day.

A new counseling center in the center of Tuzla is being opened in the joint cooperation of the City Administration, the Health Center, the Center for Social Work and the Center for Culture, Klix.ba reports.
