Sarajevo, as it is considered the Jerusalem of Europe, has a special place in the history of Europe. Sarajevo city in 1914 has become a symbol of the outbreak of the first world war.
Hundred years later, when the world is preparing that in 2014 to commemorate the first global conflict, European and B&H partners want to put Sarajevo again in the center of attention, that would bring the city in the heart of European issues.
The foundation “Sarajevo srce Europe”, has brought together European member states, as well as cultural and institutional actors of B&H, under the support of the Sarajevo City, EU and French mission Centenaire (Centenary).
A special emphasis will be placed at the end of the June, when multidisciplinary activities will take place. Symbolically, that would mark the first anniversary of the outbreak of the global conflict of the 20th century, as well as the establishment of peace in a reconciled and united Europe. Program foresees a series of regional concerts, Fete de la musique, an international conference of historians, discussions on various topics, contemporary art exhibitions and a big concert of Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in Vijećnica.
This grandiose event, titled “Sarajevo srce Europe” (Sarajevo heart of Europe) will be organized by Sarajevo City Administration, French Embassy in B&H and Foundation “Sarajevo srce Europe”.
