Everything is ready for the beginning of the Water Wave of the Danube

Cities and municipalities along the Danube River are preparing for the peak of the water wave that should arrive in Croatia tomorrow. 698 centimeters were measured at the entrance profile in Batina this morning and emergency flood defense measures are in force. The Danube rises slowly – only a centimeter per hour, and it is expected that even the highest water level will be significantly below the level of 2013, when it was 776 cm.

“We are slowly approaching the level of +700 cm, which is half a meter higher than the level for the introduction of mandatory flood defense measures. They have been introduced since Sunday around noon. Currently, the top of the water wave is less than 50 km upstream from Croatia. Tomorrow is expected the peak of the water wave at the entrance profile of Batin, at slightly higher levels of +700 cm. It can grow another 10-15 cm compared to these measurements,” Tomislav Novosel from ‘Hrvatske vode’ told HRT.

He said that stagnation is expected for 12-20 hours, and then it will begin to decline.

“It is good that the water level in Budapest dropped by almost two meters in three days,” said Novosel.

Zeleni otok and Batina are preparing for the arrival of the water wave.

“We all breathed a sigh of relief on Wednesday when the peak in Bratislava, 450 km upstream from Croatia, reached a level half a meter lower than in 2013. It was to be expected that the level would be clear in Croatia as well,” said Novosel, BHRT writes.
