The 79th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), which is considered one of the largest diplomatic events in the world and which brings together the leaders of the member states, will begin in New York today.
The General Assembly, which gathers the heads of state and government of the member states in the New UN headquarters every year, will be in session from September 24 to 30.
Cameroonian Philemon Yong will chair the discussions, which will be opened by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
It is expected that 133 heads of state and government, three vice presidents, 80 vice presidents of governments and 45 ministers from member countries will attend the UN General Assembly.
