What is the Exact Amount of the Public Debt of the RS?

Minister of Finance of the RS Zoran Tegeltija stated that the public debt of the RS as of December 31, 2016, amounted to a total of 4.34 billion BAM or 45.62 % of GDP, while the overall debt of the RS amounted to 5.43 billion BAM or 57.09 % of GDP.

The amount of 3.06 billion BAM from the total debt of the RS refers to external debt, while the internal debt amounts to 2.27 billion BAM, noted Tegeltija while submitting the information on the debt to the National Assembly of the RS as of December 31, 2016.

“On the basis of the debt service of the RS and indirect debt, a total of 660.67 million BAM were paid from the budget of the RS in 2016, of which 257.17 million BAM were paid for the service of external debt, and 403.50 million BAM for the service of internal debt,” said Tegeltija.

In the year of 2016, a total of 257.17 million BAM were paid on the basis of external debt, and loan funds in the amount of 357.30 million BAM were withdrawn within the same year, specifically 305.86 million BAM for investment projects, and 51.44 million BAM for support of the budget.

“While looking at the structure of withdrawn loan funds in the year of 2016 on the basis of the purpose of investments, the largest were investments in infrastructure with 55%, followed by public budget spending 33.34 %, and economic activities 11.67%,” as noted in the information on the debt of the RS, which deputies discussed last night.
