memory6In memory of eight killed residents of Sarajevo, the Minister of Veterans Affairs of the Canton Sarajevo Muharem Fiso together with schoolchildren from the elementary school “Safvet beg Basagic” laid flowers at the site of the massacre, which took place 22 years ago on the corner of Gimnazijska Street and Obala Kulina Bana.

That day, ten more fellow citizens were wounded in the same attack.

On that tragic day, from the shrapnel mortar shells that were fired from the direction of Vrace, following citizens were killed: Vildana Avdic, Dina Comor, Rusmir Copelj, Azra Hanic, Lejla Jahic, Razija Jahic, Amir Krivic and Dino Sipilovic.

According to the president of Association of parents of children killed during Sarajevo under siege 1992-1995, Fikret Grabovica, children of Sarajevo were also killed in the massacre.

As Minister Fiso emphasized, citizens of Sarajevo were killed during the war only because they wanted to survive, while waiting for bread and water, at the funerals, on the markets, children on sleighing and in front of schools…

“We will do everything in order for these massacres and suffering of innocent citizens of Sarajevo never to be forgotten and never to repeat again,” promised Minister Fiso and emphasized that every event like this is a memory but also a warning to new generations of our people, as well as an explanation of the crime that was committed, that the monsters from the hills were killing and they did not choose the way to do it, aiming to prevent the citizens of Sarajevo to survive.

“Delegation of the City of Sarajevo, the Municipality Centar Sarajevo, the Association of parents of children killed during Sarajevo under siege 1992-1995, The Union of civilian victims of the war, relatives and friends of the victims and schoolchildren of the elementary school “Safvet beg Basagic also attended the marking event and paid the tribute to the victims by laying the flowers,” as announced from the Sarajevo Canton.
