The City Council of Sarajevo adopted on Wednesday a draft decision establishing February 1, 1462 as the exact date of founding of the City of Sarajevo.
The draft decision was made as a result of research on scientifically based and historical facts, which was jointly worked by Professor Emeritus Enes Pelidija and employees of the Historical Archives of the City of Sarajevo, the Institute of History and the Oriental Institute at the University of Sarajevo, the Gaza Husrev-beg Library and all participants of the International Scientific Conference “Isa-beg Ishakovic”, which was held in February this year, Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Isa-beg Ishakovic stated in the press release.
“It is our great pleasure that the City Council members, together with the Mayor of the City of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka and the employees of the City Administration, recognized the quality and importance of projects and, on the basis of them, submitted and adopted an initiative to determine the date of the establishment of the City of Sarajevo,”was stated by the Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Isa-beg Ishakovic.
The project covered the political, economic, social and religious circumstances of the birth of the City of Sarajevo, and on the basis of the facts it was confirmed that the city of Sarajevo has a continuity of 557 years both in name and in the development of the urban environment, respecting and nurturing all the diversity of cultures, nations and religion.
“We hope that together we will continue to work on similar projects to revitalize and promote the millennial tradition and cultural heritage of our homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the association added.
The Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Isa-beg Ishakovic was established in the year of 2016 and its main mission is revitalization of the character and work of the founder of the city of Sarajevo, Isa-beg Ishakovic. The development of a sense of love for BiH and the protection of its traditional, spiritual and cultural being are the main aims of the Association, as well as the protection of the cultural heritage of our country and the promotion of natural, cultural and historical heritage of Isa-beg Ishakovic and BiH.
