Fajon: The Slovenian Government introduced Sanctions against Israel

The Slovenian government has imposed sanctions on Israel today. According to Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon, the Israeli finance and national security ministers have been declared persona non grata in Slovenia.

Fajon said that Slovenia is “opening new paths” in the European Union with this measure. She added that similar measures, including travel bans for Israeli finance and national security ministers, have been adopted by some other countries – Norway, Sweden, Great Britain, Australia.

“I think this sends a clear message to this Israeli government that the killing of innocent civilians, including attempts at ethnic cleansing and genocidal behavior in Gaza, must stop,” she said.

She added that the EU will still discuss additional measures that are already on the table. After EU foreign ministers failed to reach an agreement on Tuesday to take measures against Israel for human rights violations, she expressed regret and stressed that the agreement in principle on humanitarian aid to Gaza cannot be an excuse for inaction.
