Former American President Bill Clinton said on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Srebrenica – Potočari Memorial Center that it is a place of memory and reflection and a reminder to the whole world of, as he said, our common humanity.
In a video address, Clinton expressed his gratitude to those present for the opportunity to join the commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
“I will never forget participating in its opening in 2003. As I said that day, I hoped and prayed that this place would be a serious reminder to the whole world of our common humanity, and during these twenty years the Memorial Center has been exactly that. much more. It is a place of remembrance and reflection, a permanent tribute to the lives lost and a solemn promise that we must be vigilant so that such horrors never happen again in Bosnia and Herzegovina or anywhere else,” Clinton said in a video address to the audience.
On this day in 2003, the former American president opened the Memorial Center in Potočari, near Srebrenica, when 107 victims were buried. Today, he used the opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to making the Memorial Center what it is.
“As we remember the more than 8,000 men and boys killed in the Srebrenica genocide, the greatest tribute we can pay them is to build a future worthy of their memory. Let’s make up for the years they didn’t live by building a world where all children are safe and loved and have a chance realize our own dreams, where cooperation wins, not conflict, and where diverse people live together as true partners. I still believe that such a future is possible, and I will always be with you to work together and make it a reality,” Clinton said.
Today, the 20th anniversary of the official opening of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, a memorial and cemetery for the victims of the 1995 genocide, is being marked in the former production hall of the battery factory, AA reports.
