Film “Finding Bosnia” by Bosnian Ivana Horvat, who lives in the United States since the age of 4, where you can see her return to BiH and the search for her identity, will be screened at the 43rd Northwest Film Festival.
The film was premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival in 2015, and it has been at numerous film festivals since then – St. Louis, Portland, Germany, Chicago and Canada. Besides festival screenings, the film was shown several times in theaters for charity cases as well.
Horvat grew up as an American, and after more than 10 years she is coming to BiH to find a response on the question: “What it means to be a Bosnian?” The film features many icons of BiH from modern times and the period of the former Yugoslavia, who talk about how they perceive the state of BiH. Some of them are Faruk Hadziosmanovic, Mirza Tanovic and Berin Tuzlic. This is a documentary that was filmed on Ivana’s way, spontaneous and full of dialogue.
The film was recorded in France, Canada, BiH, Croatia and Montenegro. Most of the action takes place in Sarajevo, where Ivana was born. At the beginning of the war, she escaped from BiH with her mother and ended in Oregon. She visited BiH when she was 13 years old and now she returns to find herself as a 25 year old.
The film will be screened on the 11th and 12th of November in the framework of the NW Film Festival in Portland.
