Fines up to 1200 BAM for Parking of Cars on Sidewalks

The draft law on offenses against public order and peace in Sarajevo Canton foresees fines for particular arrogant behavior, which is reflected in the illegal stopping and parking of cars on sidewalks and footpaths. Fines range from 400 to 1,200 BAM.

In a statement to Klix.ba, Minister of Internal Affairs Admir Katica explained what exactly is meant by “impertinent behavior” and in which places in the city it is planned to put an end to illegal stopping and parking of cars.

He emphasized that fines for illegal parking are subject to sanctions that do not apply to this new law.

“This part of the law refers precisely to those behaviors that indicate insolent and reckless behavior. You can assume a situation where someone parks in Ferhadija or climbs on the sidewalk in Titova Street or similar, these are those behaviors where such behavior is insolent and reckless with the violator,” Katica said to Klix.ba.

He adds that the proposed article of the law sanctions the violator based on his arrogance and recklessness, and that the law does not refer to illegal parking near, for example, certain residential buildings and the like, and that sanctions are imposed on that basis by the already valid legal regulations.

“That does not apply to that part, legal regulations are applied that are not part of the law that we are proposing. This therefore only applies to brazen and reckless behavior that is a new form and is parked in a place where it is obviously not possible,” Katica explains.

Katica stated via Facebook that the text of the new law is a product of experiences, police practice and suggestions from citizens.

“One of the frequent problems we have encountered is the illegal stopping and parking of motor vehicles in public places, on sidewalks and footpaths. This type of parking represents nothing more than brazen and reckless behavior, and it will be treated by the new law. We put an end to arrogant individuals who threaten the safety of our citizens,” wrote Katica.
