Firefighters and AF of BiH continue to fight the Fire near Bosanski Grahovo

The fire in the Bosansko Grahovo area is still active, and since the morning hours, a helicopter of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been participating in extinguishing it again, confirmed Marino Vidović from the Civil Protection of the Herzeg-Bosnia Canton to Fena news agency.

According to him, the situation at the fire site is relatively unchanged for now, and firefighting and other services are continuously working to suppress the fire.

“The situation is relatively unchanged, it is constantly being extinguished. The Armed Forces helicopter has been operating again since this morning, and the Air Tractor was also operating yesterday,” said Vidović.

Firefighting is further complicated by inaccessible terrain and unfavorable weather conditions, primarily wind. Members of the Korita DVD, the Bosansko Grahovo Civil Protection, forestry workers and other available forces are on the ground, while the Sveta Ana DVD has been sent from Livno to Lištani to assist.

“Everything possible is being done to suppress the fire. The wind is not in our favor, but all available forces are involved,” said Vidović.

During Sunday, the Air Tractor firefighting aircraft also participated in the extinguishing, which was its second deployment in the Bosansko Grahovo area during this year’s fire season. Due to thick smoke and reduced visibility, the conditions for continued safe aerial operations were not satisfactory, so the aircraft had to return to Mostar Airport.

Due to the scale of the fire, assistance was previously requested from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose engagement was approved.

According to information from the Civil Protection of the Croatian Border Guard, there are currently no major fires in other areas of the County that would pose a serious threat, while the situation in the Bosansko Grahovo area is still being intensively monitored.

A large fire on Risovac in the Bosansko Grahovo municipality has spread over more than 1,000 hectares of high forest. Due to high temperatures and strong and variable winds, the fire line is continuing to spread, which significantly complicates its control. A special problem is the lack of manpower, firefighting equipment, vehicles, tanks and other available means for extinguishing fires, which is why the possibilities of action at fire sites are limited.
