New Quarrels in the RS Opposition ahead of Elections

There are still two months left until the election, the election campaign has not even started yet, and the opposition from RS is boiling again. Months of hostility cannot be masked even by a common front against the SNSD and the current government. Instead, accusations are pouring in among opposition leaders that some of them are working for another political party.

The research of party ratings, statistics, but also some photos from summer vacations and celebrations, again became a topic among oppositionists, as a reason for a new quarrel, twenty days before the start of the election campaign. One storm about the candidacies has stopped, but the accusations of who is harming whom and who is working for whom have been occupying the public for days.

“It’s very interesting to watch, that all the actors we fought for now don’t want to help us. Now they’re undermining us, and you can see that the people recognize that, and I can freely say that we’re not the only ones, we’re the only free ones, the people see that,” said the president of the List for Justice and Order, Nebojša Vukanović.

Arrows towards Vukanović

It didn’t take much, from the other part of the opposition, arrows started towards Vukanović. They say that he is disrupting the unity achieved by individual parties, and they accuse him that at this moment his actions help Milorad Dodik and the SNSD the most.

“Nebojša Vukanović is causing great damage to the opposition with his political performances. As far as I know, none of the opposition leaders insulted Nebojša Vukanović, so I don’t know why Vukanović calls Professor Blanuša and Marinko Božović derogatory names. I think that is not right,” said the head of the Club of SDS Deputies in NSRS, Ognjen Bodiroga.

Bodiroga also sent a direct message to Vukanović.

“Dear Nebojša, if you continue with your dirty work, you will be remembered as a politician thanks to whom the regime remained in power for another four years,” said Bodiroga.

Vukanović’s account received criticism from the PDP as well.

“Nebojša Vukanović has become the regime’s most useful toy. Consciously or unknowingly, the effect is the same – for years he destroys the opposition, creates conflicts and spends most of his energy on people in the opposition ranks,” said PDP deputy in the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Branislav Borenović.

Roll calls by Jelena Trivić

However, the conflicts and name-calling continued even later. In one of his performances, Vukanović also called out Jelena Trivić, asking how she finances the party, as well as her birthday celebrations.

“There is some background here. Time will tell what the background of these attacks is. For someone to tell me that I am evil and evil is below any level,” said the president of the People’s Front, Jelena Trivić.

Harsher rhetoric before the campaign

Political analysts say that the sharpening of the discourse could have been expected before the start of the campaign, and that this conflict will only divert citizens’ attention from other, essential matters.

“Both of them would be running water to the mill, but we can recognize that identical approach. As the campaign approaches, we can expect sharper attacks and rhetoric,” said communications expert Mladen Bubonjić.

According to him, these relations will certainly affect the final results of the election, as it could drag away and further disappoint voters who are more inclined to the opposition.

This could even lead to an increase in electoral abstentions or, in the extreme case, to them casting their vote for one of the parties in power out of emotion, Federalna writes.
