The Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina completed its first internal training program for unmanned aerial vehicles on simulators from September 28 to October 14.
With this training, the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina have gained the capability to train their own drone operators independently. This is an important step forward in the development of intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and target acquisition (ISTAR) capabilities, as well as in the further development of using unmanned systems. The training was completed as part of the NATO Defence Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI).
During the training, participants acquired theoretical and practical knowledge in unmanned system management, mission planning and execution, sensor operation, safety procedures, and post-mission analysis. Part of the training was implemented using the RAPAS simulator, which enables safe and standardized practice of various operational scenarios.
The RAPAS simulator and COMET systems remain the property of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and represent a new basis for the continuation of development of this skill and the training of future generations of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After the implementation of subsequent training phases, the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina will have its own instructional staff qualified to operate these systems. This creates the conditions for future operator training to be conducted by instructors from within the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the continuous transfer of knowledge and the long-term maintenance of developed capabilities.
With this step, the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina continue their process of modernization, strengthening interoperability and developing capabilities for more efficient support to command, decision-making and the execution of legally defined tasks, the statement concludes.
