According to the Chief of the Department of Surgery at UCC Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Zijah Rifatbegovic, the first liver transplantation was performed on this patient 40 days ago, but due to complications caused by blockage of the hepatic artery, urgent intervention was needed.

Prof. Dr. Rifatbegovic explained that the liver retransplantation was done after the transplant team of UCC Tuzla received a call from the Cantonal Hospital in Zenica to perform cadaveric organ explantation.

“After explantation of the liver, kidney and cornea that we performed at the Cantonal Hospital Zenica, we performed retransplantation of the liver of our patient, and it is the first liver re-transplantation in our institution, and the entire BiH as well,” said Prof. Dr. Rifatbegovic.
