The Mayor of Novi Grad Sarajevo and President of the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Semir Efendic, has announced that he will file criminal charges against Nedeljko Elek, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Olympic Center “Jahorina,” due to the damaged BiH flag at the Kosuta peak of Jahorina.
Efendic explained that the damage occurred just one day after the flag was placed at that location.
“To make matters worse, the authorities of the Republika Srpska (RS) entity are behind this action, even though the flag is not on the territory of that entity but deep within the municipality of Trnovo in the Federation of BiH (FBiH). The flag will, of course, be returned, and a criminal complaint will be filed against Nedeljko Elek for the criminal offense of damaging and removing someone else’s property,” Efendic emphasized.
He added that Elek and the Mayor of Istocno Sarajevo, Ljubisa Cosic, publicly supported the removal of the flag.
“They spread falsehoods that the area belongs to the RS entity and made absurd claims that only the flag of the RS, the symbols of the Nemanjic dynasty, etc., can be displayed on Jahorina,” Efendic concluded.
The flag in question was placed at the Jahorina peak over the weekend by members of the Novi Grad Mountain Rescue Service.
However, the flag was removed on Monday, a fact confirmed by Elek.
“They placed the flag yesterday. They came to Jahorina with quad bikes, and one of them carried a wartime flag. It was later determined that one of them was a member of the federal police, who was arrested in Krupac,” Elek stated two days ago, as reported by local media.
The Federal Minister of Internal Affairs, Ramo Isak, also reacted to these actions yesterday, who, among other things, refuted Elek’s claims, stating that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of RS did not, nor are they allowed to, arrest members of the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs because of the national flag.
