Foreign Policy: Is the War about to break out in the Balkans?

Foreign Policy War on Balkans biscani.netTwenty years of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina might be terminated after increasingly expressive political tensions not only in B&H, but in the Balkans as well. Current political leadership of Republika Srpska, the smaller BH entity, has been long deprecating because of the current position and expressing desire for secession louder and louder.

Political crisis in B&H in terms of international community is currently not in the focus of priorities due to several global problems, such as Russian air strikes in Syria and the refugee crisis which has severely affected the Balkans, the Foreign Policy writes.

In less than a month, precisely on November 21, the 20th anniversary of the signing of Dayton Peace Agreement will be marked. The Dayton Peace Agreement stopped the war in B&H and established the intrastate conformation of B&H. For years now, B&H has been showing inefficiency in its policy which is mostly affected by the separatist behavior of the political leadership of the smaller BH entity Republika Srpska.

The analysts see a reason for concern regarding the crisis in B&H in the announced referendum on the Court and Prosecutor’s Office, which has already been announced by the President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik and supported by the National Assembly of the smaller BH entity. Thereby, the question posed at the referendum would be: ”Do you support the unconstitutional and unauthorized imposition of laws by the High Representative of the International Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly the imposed laws on the Court and Prosecutor’s Office of B&H and the implementation of their decisions on the territory of Republika Srpska?”

Many people believe that the holding of this referendum would overturn the previous progress of B&H and that is would open the doors for Milorad Dodik as the President of Republika Srpska towards the probable proclamation of the independence of Republika Srpska. Dodik has earlier announced that the referendum on independence could be held by 2018.
