Former BiH Security Minister Nenad Nesic leaves Detention Unit

Former Bosnia and Herzegovina Security Minister Nenad Nešić has left the detention unit of the Institution for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions in Vojkovići, said the director of the Institution Siniša Perković.

Perković confirmed that at around 6:00 p.m. a letter arrived at the Institution stating that Nešić’s detention had been lifted.

Nešić’s lawyer Senka Nožica told Srna news agency earlier today that the Prosecutor’s Office will not seek an extension of the detention in which Nešić has been held for the past four months.

The Court of BiH announced that, following the lifting of the detention, Nešić was imposed with prohibitive measures, including a travel ban, a ban on meeting with certain persons, and a mandatory reporting requirement.

Nešić was arrested on December 26 last year. After a month spent in detention, he resigned, and the Council of Ministers dismissed him from his duties.

He is suspected of abuse of office or authority and accepting bribes, and his detention was extended by two months in March.

The BiH Prosecutor’s Office suspects Nešić, along with the owner of the “Legend” company Mladen Lučić and the director of “Putevi Republika Srpska” Milan Dakić, of corruption and accepting bribes.
