A court in China today sentenced the country’s former official Bai Tianhui to death for accepting bribes.

Bai Tianhui, the former general manager of the public company China Huarong International Holdings, was convicted of accepting 1.1 billion yuan ($152 million) in bribes, the Beijing-based Global Times reports.

The court in Tianjin in northeastern China emphasized the significance of the social consequences and the considerable damage to state interests caused by the case.

China Huarong International Holdings belongs to the state-owned conglomerate Citic Group.

The Agriculture Minister Tang Renjian, 61, was placed under investigation by the Chinese Communist Party earlier this month on suspicion of serious violations of discipline and law, AA writes.
