Former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader was released on parole from the Lipovica prison today, Croatian Radio Television (HRT) reports.

The Sisak County Court accepted his request for parole on Thursday and a decision was written and sent to the prison this morning.

An HTV reporter reported that Sanader was released at around 10:30, that it was a parole under which he can be free, but under certain conditions and measures that were issued to him, which, if violated, he will have to return to the Lipovica prison.

Ivo Sanader was sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison for three cases, namely Fimi Media, Planinska and INA MOL, and has served about 11 years of the sentence so far. According to Croatian law, after a prisoner has served 50 percent of his sentence, he can request parole, which Ivo Sanader has done.

According to the response of the Sisak County Court, the prison believes that Ivo Sanader has served his prison sentence properly so far, and was even rated as particularly successful in certain segments.

USKOK, in its capacity as a prosecutor, believes that there is a very small risk of a possible repetition of the criminal offense, considering that Ivo Sanader is 72 years old and has been retired since 2011, and is currently not in the position he was in at the time of the criminal offense, reports HTV.
