Shortly after concluding his term as Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Gilad Erdan stated that the UN headquarters in New York should be “wiped off the face of the earth.”
“The UN building should be closed and wiped off the face of the earth,” Erdan said in an interview.
“This building, which may look beautiful on the outside, is actually distorted,” he added.
Regarding his future plans, Erdan mentioned that he sees himself leading the right-wing Likud party after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
This wasn’t the first time Erdan criticized the UN.
Previously, he had criticized UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).In violation of a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, Israel has faced international condemnation amid its continued brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since the October 7th, 2023 attack by the Palestinian group Hamas.
Since then, Israeli attacks on Gaza have resulted in the deaths of over 40.170 Palestinians, mostly women and children, with more than 92.740 injured, according to local health authorities.
More than ten months into the Israeli war, large parts of the Gaza Strip lie in ruins.
Israel has been accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which recently ordered Tel Aviv to immediately halt its military operation in the southern city of Rafah, where over a million Palestinians sought refuge from the war before it was attacked on May 6th, AA writes.
