Forto: First Tranche Of EU Funds For BiH Expected By Year’s End

“During the day, I will meet with representatives of transport operators and inform them that the ministry is ready to fulfill all the requests they have sent to this department within 14 days,”  stated the Minister of Transport and Communications of Bosnia and Herzegovina Edin Forto after the session of the Council of Ministers of BiH.

He added that these are four regulations, including amendments to the regulations on registration and the regulations on driver licensing.

“We will fulfill all the requests and everything we promised one hundred percent. We will continue to work with the transport operators’ association, but I call on all other departments that have some of the requests they have requested under their jurisdiction to urgently start dealing with them,” he said.

Speaking about the Growth Plan document adopted at yesterday’s telephone session of the Council of Ministers of BiH and the reforms that are its integral part, Forto pointed out that there are numerous doubts and misconceptions among the public.

“This is an international agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Commission. After we have adopted the Growth Plan proposal in terms of reforms, we need to receive feedback from Brussels, to see if they agree, whether the plan is ambitious enough,” explained Forto.

He emphasized that all previous versions of the document were working materials, and that the delay in adopting and submitting the proposal is a special story.

“Considering how our institutions function, this Growth Plan is ambitious enough,” he emphasized.

Forto expressed concern about whether all relevant stakeholders will fulfill their obligations in the coming months, given that the first deadlines expire at the end of 2025.

“The first tranche of funds that will come to BiH, as a kind of advance, will probably be paid by the end of this year. But what is crucial is that all other payments, whether grants or soft loans for infrastructure projects, will be made as we implement what we are currently trying to promise through the reform plan,” he said.
