The Council of Ministers of B&H is preparing legislation according to which imports of used passenger vehicles that are meeting a minimum environmental standards Euro 4 will be allowed and import of new cars with Euro 5 standard at least. Ministers accepted the initiative at the end of last year, and it should come into force from the 1st of April 2016, as reported by RTRS.
This means that it will not be possible to import cars older than 10 years in B&H, except few whose manufacturers started to apply Euro 4 standard in 2004.
In the year 2015, a total of 61,806 passenger vehicles was imported in B&H. Out of these, 5,510 were new vehicles and 56.296 were used motor vehicles, according to the data by ITA. More than 32,000 of imported used vehicles only meet Euro 3 norms emissions.
“These are the cars that are assessed as the biggest air polluters in B&H. Standard Euro 4 means that cars have increased standard,” said Mirko Sarovic, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of B&H.
Decision will not be applied to the buyers who conduct purchase until the 1st of April, and do not take or not cleared the vehicle. They have so called transitional period to finalize it.
