Gaddafi’s most famous Son was killed

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the most famous son of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, has been killed, sources close to the family, his lawyer and Libyan media reported on Tuesday.

The circumstances of al-Islam’s death are not yet known, Reuters reports.

Although he was well-known in the North African country, especially for his involvement in politics before 2011, he has not appeared in public much in recent years.

A Libyan court sentenced him to death in absentia in 2015 for suppressing peaceful protests during the 2011 revolution that ended his father’s rule.

He was previously indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged crimes against humanity, and his lawyers have failed to stop that process.

Al-Islam registered as a presidential candidate in December elections in 2021, which ultimately did not take place.
