Gusts from the southerly storm occasionally reached speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour in Dalmatia last night and Thursday morning, due to large waves on the open sea, navigation was difficult and many shipping lines were interrupted, the Maritime Hydrometeorological Center in Split reported.

“In places, storm surges from the south in the central Dalmatian area in the open sea created waves up to five meters high,” said Hina Robert Turčinović, meteorologist on duty at the Center. That is why the center issued warnings to sailors and shippers about the deteriorating conditions at sea. But in the late afternoon and tonight, the southerly blow is expected to decrease, added Turčinović.

Due to the strengthening of the catamaran line from the island to Split and the Sumartin-Makarska and Sućuraj-Drvenik ferry lines, Jadrolinija’s office for the Split waterway said.

The Split-Klis expressway has been closed to traffic for trucks and buses since this morning due to strong winds, the Split police reported.

In the area of the Split hospital in Križine today, a strong wind broke off a branch from a tree that fell to the ground, and with the quick intervention of firefighters, it was removed, according to information from the fire operations center in Split. There was no material damage.
