Employees in health institutions of FBiH requested an urgent meeting with representatives of the FBiH Government, the relevant Minister and representatives of cantons in order to start discussing the harmonization of branch collective contracts. According to new information, the meeting should be held on June 9 or 10 and the announced general strike is prolonged.
President of the Independent Professional Union of Health Workers in FBiH Abud Sarić said that the strike is prolonged for now because it was promised to them that the meeting will be held on June 9 or 10.
“We requested an urgent meeting of the negotiation team comprised of the relevant federal Minister Vjekoslav Mandić and cantonal representatives in order to harmonize the collective contract with the Labor Law. We will not allow the diminishing of the rights of employees and we will request the harmonization of wages with the increased costs of living, which has been our request since 2007,” said Sarić.
Sarić highlighted that health workers have no other choice but to hope that negotiations will be fruitful and that the collective contract will protect their rights.
“We want to work in an arranged system, especially in this field because lives of citizens of BiH depend on it,” Sarić said.
If the meeting is not held when it was announced, the Independent Professional Union of Health Workers in FBiH does not exclude the possibility of general strike. Around 18.500 health workers would stop working or significantly reduce their working activities and the only part of the health system that would continue working would be the services necessary for urgent care of patients. General strike was announced at the press conference held on May 26 this year.
Sarić said that the official invitation for negotiations by the FBIH Government is expected next week already.
