The German government has broken the record for arms exports this year as well, approving sales worth at least 11.71 billion euros, according to official data.

The previous record of 9.35 billion euros from 2021 was already exceeded in mid-December, by 25 percent, according to data published by the Ministry of Economy at the request of the Parliament.

Compared to last year, the amount is 40 percent higher, reflecting the doubled value of deliveries to Ukraine of as much as 4.15 billion euros.

Almost 90 percent of exported weapons and military equipment were shipped this year to other EU and NATO members, Ukraine and countries such as Japan, Australia and South Korea.

The government also gave the green light for exports worth 1.18 billion euros to a group of third countries such as Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Deliveries to Israel increased tenfold this year, reaching 323.2 million euros.

The government issued most of the more than 200 export permits after the October 7 incursion of Hamas into Israeli territory, the dpa agency notes, reports Hina.
