Good People in Bosnia helped Migrant Abdalkarim who was able to hear for the first Time in his Life

Despite all the refugee worries that he had to experience on his way from native Morocco to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Thursday was a particularly special day for Abdalkarim Tuari. The 26-year-old, who was born deaf, was able to hear for the first time in 26 years.

Thanks to Care International Balkans, in cooperation with the Bifon Association, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has enabled this migrant with damaged hearing nerves to get a hearing machine and hear voices and sounds from the environment for the first time in his lives.

“I’m so happy, excited, I’m overwhelmed with emotions. And the people around me are rejoicing. I’m a little bit confused by the sounds I can finally hear, trying to imitate them and say the words for the first time. I’m grateful to everyone because this has given my life a new meaning, ”  told Abdalkarim, while using sign language.

He has been staying in the temporary reception center Usivak since March 2020 and came to Miral in Velika Kladusa in February this year. Like the majority of migrants, he dreams of living in one of the countries of Western Europe.

“We are here to make the lives of people on the move as dignified as possible and to make their daily lives easier. As humanitarian workers, we are happiest when we witness the real change for the better that we have contributed. Abdalkarim’s happiness when he realized he could hear us became the happiness of all of us, and also of other users in the Miral center, ” said dr. Marko Isajlovic, medical advisor at the DRC, Klix.ba writes.
