Goražde: Memory on the brave Defenders who died on the Honorable Mission

Members of the Association of demobilized veterans of the Pale – Prača laid flowers and recited Fatiha in the village Luka, where 20 years ago in an explosion of helicopter was killed delegation of former District Goražde, and 4 Golden Lilies officers.

In the village Gornje Bare near Prača, in the night between 21^st and 22^nd of August 1995, in an explosion of a helicopter that was flying from Zenica to Goražde were killed Esad Ohranović, President of County Goražde, Ismet Osmanović, president of the War Presidency of the Municipality of Rogatica, and four golden lilies officers: Selver Sijerčić, Head of the technical 81^st Division of Army of B&H, Nermin Šenderović, an officer of the General Staff of the Army of B&H, Kemal Hrvo, Assistant of the Commander for Security of 802^nd Light Brigade and Rasim Mašić, Deputy Commander of the Military police of the 81^st Division of the Army of B&H.

Memory on the tragic events, with the nearest family members of those who were killed, was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and cantonal veterans’ associations.

Flowers at the Grave of Hero Sinan Žuga

During the operation “Krug” for the liberation of the left bank of the Drina River, in the period from 15^th of August to 18^th of September 1992, the heroic battle for defense of Osanica took place.

The greatest attack on Goražde was from direction of Foča to Osanica, when several armored vehicles, tanks and transporters tried to cross two bridges on the river Osanica and conquer strategic place, the school at Osanica. Participants in the events remember that that day was the “hell”.

Armoured vehicles were heading towards the bridge, followed by hundreds of enemy soldiers and fired grenades, while on the other side were unarmed defenders, mostly locals and refugees. That was the day when the commander Sinan Žuga was killed.

Sinan and his six fellow comrades at time of the attack on the school in Osanica were inside of the facility. They had only 3 grenades and some easier weapons and Sinan managed to destroy a tank that already came to the bridge with last of the 3 grenades. He was killed only a few seconds afterwards from grenades of other armored vehicles and grenade launchers that fired more than a thousand grenades of various profiles at the school that day. All his comrades who were with him at that moment were easier or more difficultly wounded.
