The Management Board of the Compensation Fund of the Republika Srpska made a decision today in Banja Luka on the payment of three million BAM for the repair of damage and the implementation of measures to suppress and eradicate African swine fever.

The distribution of money will begin at the end of next week, after the processing of the decision that will be made in accordance with the Rulebook on conditions and methods of obtaining support for damage repair, announced the Bureau of the Government of the Republika Srpska for public relations.

The money will be paid out in accordance with the priorities, which are the producers who suffered damage first and the big producers.

The Commander of the Republican Headquarters for Emergency Situations of the Republika Srpska, Radovan Višković, ordered the mobilization of available capacities, i.e. manpower and machinery, in order to suppress the spread of the African swine fever virus.

Višković pointed out that the timely disposal of dead animals, in accordance with regulations, is a priority task for preventing the further spread of the disease.

4,200 pigs were euthanized in Semberija

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republika Srpska Savo Minic said that 4,200 pigs infected with African plague have been euthanized in Semberija so far, and that 26 disinfection barriers have been installed.

Minic stated that there are currently 20 hotspots, and teams on the ground are taking the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease to other parts of Republika Srpska.

It was emphasized that one of the major problems and challenges faced by civil protection teams is the lack and weak response of interested people during the loading and removal of dead animals, which is a priority job in preventing infection.

Minic says that good cooperation has been achieved with the mayors of the municipalities of Ugljevik and Lopare, who have installed disinfection barriers and are implementing the proposed measures.

At the Staff meeting, it was stated that the situation on the ground is further complicated by poor cooperation and communication with the mayor of Bijeljina, Ljubiša Petrović, who issued an order to count pigs in hot spots, which currently represents a problem when entering infected areas and contributes to the spread of the infection.

A meeting was also held with the members of the international expert team for the suppression of African swine fever, who stated that appropriate measures and actions for the suppression of this disease have been taken in the Republika Srpska.

Appeal to citizens and businessmen

The headquarters stated that the sampling will be one hundred percent, which implies an examination of each pig.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, i.e. its expert commissions and teams, will take over the entire work on the list of damages, data processing, compensations, as well as all the work required to combat the African swine fever virus.

At the meeting, it was said that the disease did not appear in large pig farms, but in households with smaller pig production.

The expert operational team appealed to the citizens and businessmen of the affected areas to provide assistance to the affected farms and householders in suppressing the spread of the disease, for the benefit of the entire community.

The headquarters appeals to everyone to comply with the prescribed measures, as well as that unscrupulous individuals who violate the prescribed measures will be sanctioned.

The staff for emergency situations, apart from the ministers, also consists of the directors of the Republican Administration of Civil Protection of the Republic of Srpska, the Police, the Veterinary Institute of the Republic of Srpska “Dr. Vaso Butozan” and the Inspectorate of the Republika Srpska.
