Gradiška: Border With EU From 1 July

europaBA_2013050817042615Future border arrangements between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina were the focus of a visit yesterday in Gradiska by Ambassador Peter Sorensen, Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina & EU Special Representative, and Nigel Casey, Ambassador of the United Kingdom, in a statement from the Delegation of the EU to BiH.

Gradiska is the busiest crossing between the two countries with approximately 2,500 passenger vehicles and 400 trucks passing each day. It is likely to become busier after 1 July when Croatia joins the European Union. Gradiska will be one of two border inspection points between the two countries through which products made from animals will have to pass.

The Ambassadors viewed the site of the future interstate bridge – which will be co-financed by BiH and Croatia. They were briefed on the plans by the Director of RS Highways. Ambassador Sorensen underlined in his comments to media the need for all involved to move the process forward due to the need to reduce traffic in the nearby town. He said “The EU is strongly committed to this project which is needed by both countries and local residents.”

Together with the Mayor of Gradiska, the Ambassadors also met members of the border police and the customs terminal staff to hear about their workload.
