DobojIn early June, the 8th regular session of the Aquasan Network in BiH was held, and the topic of the session was ‘Improving the Business of Water Utility Companies in Transition Countries and Experiences of BIH’.

More than 60 experts from entity and cantonal ministries, from public utility companies, water agencies, environment agencies, NGOs, donor organisations and international financial institutions attended the session.

Members of Aquasan network in BiH have shared their experiences at three day conference which was held in Albania in early May.

Representatives of competent ministries of Tuzla Canton Mirela Uljić and Zenica-Doboj Canton Senada Dizdar, as well as representatives of water utility companies from Mostar and Cazin have presented experiences of the countries of the region and the world.

Manager of the project ‘Securing the access to water through institutional development and infrastructure’ pointed out good results of this project in the entire BIH and noted that there are preparations going on in order to establish the regulatory framework in the sector of water supply and sanitation, which will be followed in the future.

During the joint discussion, they mostly talked about infrastructure projects in the sector of water and environment, managing utility companies and strengthening the capacity, especially after establishing the regulatory agency as an independent institution that regulates services in the sector of water supply.

Next session will be held in mid-September in Bihać.

‘Aquasan Network BiH’ is a part of the Project of good Management in the Field of Waters and Protection of Environment ‘Gov-Wade’ which is being implemented by the Resource Centre for Water and Environment ‘Una Consulting’ with the support of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in BiH, and its aim is to enable experts to exchange experiences and improve their knowledge.
