At a reception marking Greek National Day, the Ambassador of Greece to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ioanna Efthymiadou, highlighted the historical significance of the Greek War of Independence, emphasizing that the struggle for freedom, dignity, and justice remains a guiding principle of the Greek nation.

Addressing guests, she underlined the strong and longstanding relations between Greece and Bosnia and Herzegovina, noting that cooperation is built on shared interests in regional stability, economic development, and connectivity in Southeast Europe. She recalled that Greece has been supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina since the mid-1990s through development assistance and key infrastructure projects, including the reconstruction of the building housing the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Regional Cooperation Council in Sarajevo.

Efthymiadou reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, pointing to the participation of Greek troops in EUFOR Althea as a concrete example. She added that Greece continues to support the country through regional initiatives such as the South-East European Cooperation Process.

Speaking about broader international engagement, the ambassador noted Greece’s role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, guided by the principles of dialogue, diplomacy, and democracy.

She also stressed that strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation is closely tied to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path. Greece, she said, remains a strong advocate of the country’s integration into the European Union, encouraging domestic political leaders to take the necessary steps toward opening accession negotiations and securing a shared future within the European community.
