The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Gordan Grlić Radman, said that the Greek authorities guarantee the safety of Croatian citizens, who ended up in prisons after fan riots in Athens.

During the commemoration of the European Day of Remembrance for the Victims of All Totalitarian and Authoritarian Regimes at the Peace Cemetery in Bilim near Mostar, Minister Grlić Radman also referred to the situation of Croatian citizens, members of the “Bad Blue Boys” fan group, who after the fan riots in Athens in which killed Greek AEK fan, ended up in custody.

“There are 102 Croatian citizens there, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković, the Minister of Justice and Administration of the Republic of Croatia Ivan Malenica and I have already communicated this these days. We are concerned about their safety, we are in contact with the Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis, I with my colleagues and colleague Malenica also with his colleagues from Greece. We have extremely good cooperation and, of course, a promise from the Greek authorities that the safety of Croatian citizens will be guaranteed,” Grlić Radman said.

The minister also commented on the upcoming informal meeting of regional leaders in Greece.

“We are going to Greece on the occasion of an informal meeting of regional leaders, the main topic is the continuation of the process of European integration of the countries of Southeast Europe and continental stability and security in the context of Russian aggression against Ukraine,” said the Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs.

Radman also referred to the issue of BiH and its path to the EU, asserting that BiH’s membership in the EU is in Croatia’s national interest.

“From the very beginning, we support all the efforts of Bosnia and Herzegovina on this path. Also, thanks to the Republic of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina received candidate status last year, and I hope that accession negotiations will begin by the end of the year,” Grlić Radman concluded.
