President of the Cycling Federation of B&H Zlatko Berbić yesterday handed over to the Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić the certificate on the set Guinness world record in the longest line of cyclists in the world.
The record was broken within the cycling race “Sarajevo Grand Prix 2015” which was held in June 2016 and hosted by the cities of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo.
Around 1,300 registered participants arrived at the start of the race in front of the facility of the Assembly of East Sarajevo. Eventually, a group of 984 recreational cyclists arrived to the goal in front of the Sarajevo City Center and broke the record.
“An opportunity to experience cycling not only as sport, but also as recreation and way of thinking would not be created without support by the City Administration of the City of Sarajevo. It was further contributed to by the cycling trail whose construction was initiated by the City of Sarajevo,” Berbić highlighted and thanked the Mayor for support.
Furthermore, Berbić added that the construction of Trebević cable car, which will have bicycle holders, will enable an even larger circle across Trebević to Bjelašnica to be made during one of the coming “Sarajevo Grand Prix” races, and only then the tourist capacity will be complemented.
The last record in number of cyclists was broken in 2010 in California, when 1,300 cyclists registered and 916 of them arrived to the end line.
