The Serbian Orthodox Church yesterday celebrated the Epiphany – the holiday of baptism of Jesus Christ, with which his mission of preaching the Christian faith began.
Epiphany is one of the biggest Christian holidays, as it is considered that in the moment of baptism the Father, Son and Holy Spirit appeared together for the first time, thus revealing the secret of the Holy Trinity, which have become a symbol of faith, for the first time as well.
Competition of swimmers in swimming after the Holy Cross and taking the cross out of the water is being held in many cities and places.
Althought the temperature of the Sana River was only 4.1 degrees and the air temperature as much as six degrees below zero, 44 young men registered for the swimming competition in Prijedor. The winner was Danijel Drljača.
Out of 35 applied competitors, winner of the competition held in Banja Luka was Aleksa Jošić. He was rewarded with a goldfinch, and other participants received appropriate rewards as well.
Although there was no organized swimming competition in Foča, the swimming was held anyways. The 17-year-old Dijana Drakul from Foča was the youngest participant.
Coldness of the Trebišnjica River did not discourage 35 swimmers in Trebinje to joyfully swim to the Holy Cross in the water whose temperature was around ten degrees.
Swimming for the Holy Cross was organized for the first time in East Sarajevo yesterday, and 15 contestants applied for swimming in the Željeznica River.
Vladan Simić from Višegrad is the winner of this year’s Epiphany swimming for the Holy Cross which was held yesterday on the Drina River in Višegrad in the length of 33 meters, symbolizing the length of Christ’s life on earth.
