Hamas Chief says they are ready for a ‘Long War’ in Gaza

Two days ago, Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar stated that this Palestinian group, almost a year into the war in Gaza, has enough resources to continue its fight against Israel, with support from regional allies backed by Iran.

Sinwar, who replaced the killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh last month, mentioned in a letter to Yemeni allies that they are “prepared to wage a long war of attrition”.

Meanwhile, deadly clashes rage in the Gaza Strip, where medics and rescuers said that Israeli attacks two days ago, which the military did not comment on, killed at least twenty people.

The latest strikes followed after Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned that the chances of ceasing fights with Hezbollah militants in Lebanon are increasingly slim, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.

Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan stated over the weekend that the group “has a high capacity to continue” fighting despite losses, emphasizing the “recruitment of new generations” to replace the killed militants.

In his letter to Yemeni Houthis, Sinwar threatened that groups siding with Iran in Gaza, as well as elsewhere in the region, including Lebanon and Iraq, will “break Israel’s will” after more than 11 months of war.

Independent United Nations (UN) human rights experts warned that Israel risks becoming an international “pariah” due to its actions in Gaza and called on Western countries to ensure accountability.
