Hamas political Leader Ismail Haniyeh killed in Iran

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced.

According to Daily Sabah, his bodyguard was also killed.

“The residence of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political office of the Islamic Resistance of Hamas, was hit in Tehran, and as a result of this incident, he and one of his bodyguards were killed,” the statement said.

Hamas announced that Haniyeh was killed after taking part in the inauguration of the new Iranian president.

The statement states that Hamas will take revenge on Israel for this murder.

Although no one has yet claimed responsibility for Haniyeh’s murder, suspicion immediately fell on Israel, which vowed to kill him and other Hamas leaders for an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Last month, at least 10 members of Ismail Haniyeh’s family were killed in an Israeli air strike that hit the western part of Gaza City.

Most Hamas leaders keep a low profile in public, while others have spent much of their lives dodging assassination attempts by Israel.
