[wzslider autoplay=”true”]Ramsko Lake emerged due to the need for construction of Rama hydro power plant. In 1968, 752 families counting 1.744 people were evicted from 20 villages of Rama area, their homes were flooded, as well as the land they cultivated.
Precisely for this reason, the villagers used to curse the Ramsko Lake. Today, they call it the pearl, due to all the opportunities it offers.
The still unrevealed wealth of the Ramsko Lake, that so-called “pearl of Herzegovina”, was recognized even in the far Australia. Precisely at Ramsko Lake the Australian national team prepared for the World U-23 Rowing Championships in Bulgaria. Their colleagues from Croatia have already done their preparations there, as well.
Ramsko Lake is home to the island Šćit. Within the Franciscan Monastery Rama-Šćit, the island houses the Ethnographical Museum, an art gallery, and the House of Peace where all those who want peace and silence, advice, or those who only want to go fishing on the lake every day are welcome.
Photographs taken from the air this spring speak the best about the beauty of Ramsko Lake.
Another novelty on the Ramsko Lake is the facility for elderly and feeble people which will also operate within the Franciscan Monastery Rama-Šćit. Construction of this facility was supported by the Government of Croatia and the works should be completed by summer.
