Harsh Criticism of the Work of the Brcko District Prosecutor’s Office

The Assembly of the Brčko District of BiH discussed the Report on the work of the Prosecutor’s Office for 2022. Representatives of the government and the opposition directed harsh criticism at the work of this institution, while the chief prosecutor claims that the state of security and crime in the area of this local community is favorable.

The representatives expect far more processed cases in the field of corruption, organized crime and war crimes.

“I had several representative questions where I received an answer from the Prosecutor’s Office that they did not answer according to memory, which is a real shame for such a serious and respectable institution,” said SP’s Boro Ristic.

Particular dissatisfaction was expressed with the non-confirmation of the indictment in the “System” case for employment corruption.

“You had obvious evidence and then you say that the court is guilty. You say that you have excellent cooperation with the police, and you made a statement at the session of the HJPC of BiH that you do not receive enough police reports that would contribute to the filing of indictments for corruption and crime,” asserted Abdulah Iljazović, a representative of the Party for BiH.

Serious accusations have also been made when it comes to the employment of persons convicted of serious crimes in public institutions in Brcko.

“Dear citizens, if you have been convicted of war crimes, if you have been convicted of murdering a police officer, if you have been convicted of other crimes – do not worry. As soon as you serve your prison sentence, go to Brcko, you will get a permanent job”, were the words of SBB representative Ina Pamukčić-Karagić.

The state of security and crime in the District is favorable, and the Prosecutor’s Office is one of the few institutions that for the last eight years has managed to solve all cases upon application, says its first man Zekerija Mujkanović: “All trials in cases concerning election fraud have been completed. It is certain that, when it comes to grants, we will make prosecutorial decisions this year. We are trying to solve everything that is current and that is our job”.

However, he admits that he can do better, adding that the oldest investigations being conducted are from 2020, and that they last four and a half months on average, but that last year they lasted six months because four prosecutors did not work, which made the work difficult .
