General Rasmussen Sends A Message of Encouragement in BiH

The President of the Commission for NATO Integration Process in BiH Ana Trišić-Babić said that Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the General Secretary of NATO, is not coming to BiH to ‘’twist arms’’, but rather as a partner and friend.

General Rasmussen will stay in our country from 7-8 February.

‘’He brings a message of encouragement, but leaves sovereign decisions regarding the type of relations they want with the alliance in the hands of politicians and citizens of BiH’’, says Trišić-Babić.

She said that NATO integration would primarily benefit citizens.

‘’Experience from the region and countries in Central and Eastern Europe that have become members of NATO to join the alliance means guarantee of stability and security of property, of territory and citizens of that country, as well as a functioning democratic process. A stable country is the first and fundamental condition for economic development and a necessary precondition to attract investments. It is not possible to envision investments in countries that have constant internal problems, and whose territory is not protected. We do not want BiH to be that type of country’’, said Trišić-Babić.

According to her, when the process of reform is complete, citizens of BiH would benefit the most. The primary interest is to raise living standards and achieve their personal goals.

‘’That is the experience of all countries that have become members of NATO and we believe that citizens of BiH will feel the benefits when BiH and the entire region becomes a members of this defense alliance’’, said Trišić-Babić.
