Everyone knows that the best way to learn something is through games. This is why we decided to do the gamification of our startup process and came up with the startup game “Play, Learn and Earn”.
The game is designed for startups, but also for startup accelerators. Startups learn about the business world in a fun way, run their own company and compete with other startups, while startups accelerators easily track the progress of all startups. Through the game, startups get a certain amount of virtual money they spend on accelerating their startup. Any activity that has a real-world value exists in the game (e.g. renting space and equipment, mentoring, education, startup conferences and the like). If startups do their task with quality and timely, they will be rewarded with a bonus virtual money. Conversely, the money will be taken away. The game was made in the form of a simple web application by five programmers and one designer, supported by SPARK r&d and startup departments.
We also had support through the Digital Cities project, by the British Council and HM Government, and two UK startup accelerators – Supreme Factory and Acorn Aspirations. So far, we only have a prototype that will be tested at SPARK and Acorn Aspirations. After that, we are going to develop a final product based on cryptocurrencies. Want to see how the game looks in real life? We invite all startups, startup accelerators, and incubators, but all those who find the game interesting to sign up for the Play, Learn and Earn startup game promotion event and check out all of its features. The project partners will also be presented at the event. All you need to do is fill out a short form and come to SPARK on Friday, 6 April, at 4 PM!
